Cooperman.org is looking for the descendants of William Weissman. Here's what
we
know:
- He may have been called Velvel
- Before he emigrated to the United States he was from Bialystok,
Poland
- His original last name in Poland was Kantorovsky
- William served in the cavalry in the Russian army
- William also may have been an Olympic athlete (questionable)
- He was apparently married with a family in Poland, and may have lost contact with
them when he emigrated to the US somewhere around 1900 and started a
new family (this may or may not be known to his new family)
- He may have emigrated to Boston and then moved to New York City
- He had several (probably half-)siblings: Pashke, Harry, Dora, and
Nathan. The last three he helped bring to the US, and they too changed
their names to Weissman.
- Nathan's son Paul Weissman met one of William's daughters
- William's father was Chone Kantorovsky. His mother's maiden name was
probably Weissman.
- In the US, William married and had 5 daughters. One daughter lived
in New Jersey.
- William was a leather worker for Spalding
(the basketball maker)
- William's wife may not have liked the rest of his family ;)

are as follows:
